Installation Guide

Note: You have to be in administrator mode to do the following steps.

Step 1 - Software download

Please click on the download link above, you will be given an option to run or save the file, click run to start the installation procedure:

Once the file has finished downloading you will see our self extracting wizard:

Click extract and the Hauppauge software and drivers will be extracted automatically to your computer, once complete the folder will pop up showing these files:

Step 2 - Previous software removal

Within the folder that opened up you will see a file called hcwclear.exe (highlighted below):

Note: For Vista installation right click on the hcwclear application and click on run as administrator before running the application. This is to ensure that the previous drivers are removed throughly.

Double click on this icon to start our removal application, within this application select the options Remove All WinTV Drivers and Applications (Total Removal) and Search All .INF Files for Conflicting Hardware , then click ok and wait for the black box to disappear.

IMPORTANT! You now need to reboot your computer, please ensure that the original driver CD is NOT in the CD drive.

Step 3 - Installation of the drivers

After Windows reboots, you will see the Windows Found New Hardware Wizard, please select ' Ask me again later ' in Vista or simply cancel this wizard in XP (it may appear several times, repeat this each time the wizard is shown):

Once done, double click on the link to the install application on your desktop:

This will open up the Hauppauge install application, click ' Step 1: Install Drivers ':

This will then open up our driver installation program and automatically start installing the drivers for your TV card:

IMPORTANT! In some cases you may receive an 'Unsigned Driver Warning' message (Vista example below), if so click 'continue anyway' or 'install this driver software anyway'.

If everything installs correctly you will see the following screen, click on the bar to continue.

Step 4 - (Optional) Installation and setup of the Accessory Software

IMPORTANT! If your product has IR or if you have any of the following HVR products: 900/1100/1110/3000/4000 or you have a NOVA-TD Stick (diversity) please follow this step, otherwise continue to step 5.

In the Hauppauge installer you will now need to click ' Step 2: Install WinTV ':

The operating system you are using will be shown in the title as well as a list of drivers and applications relevant to your product will now be shown and will begin to install:

Note: If you wish to customise this list, instead of clicking ' Step 2: Install WinTV ' click on ' Custom Installation ' from the Hauppauge install application.

Once this is all complete you will see the following message:

You can now exit the install application.

Step 5 - Configuring Media center

Configuring Media Center for Digital Freeview

Configuring Media Center for Analogue Terrestrial

Configuring Media Center for a Set Top Box (Sky/NTL/Etc)

Step 6 -Trouble Shooting

There are two main problems that occur with media center:

Decoder Error, this is because you need to install a seperate MPEG2 Decoder (sometimes called a DVD Decoder) to allow Media Center to play DVD's and TV content. These can be purchased from Nvidia, Cyberlink or Intervideo.

Sound/Picture sync issues, we recommend you update the drivers for your sound card and graphics card to the latest versions available on their respective manufacturers websites. If you do not know what these are, in XP simply click Start then Run and type in dxdiag into the box and click ok :

Or under Vista click Start then type in dxdiag into the search box and click on the dxdiag listing at the top:

You may be asked if you would like to check if your drivers are Digitally Signed by Microsoft, click no to continue and you will then be shown the DirectX Diagnostic tool. Click on the Display tab at the top:

On the left you will be shown the Device Name and Manufacturer on the left which will aid you in searching for drivers for that device, on the right you will also be show the Driver Date , if this is any older than a couple of months we recommend searching for the latest drivers.

Repeat this step with the Sound tab at the top to find the details of your sound card (there may be multiple sound tabs, your main sound card is usually the first of these).

IMPORTANT! If you have a laptop you will not need to go to the individual manufacturers websites for the latest software, instead go to the website of the manufacturer of your laptop and search their downloads section for your laptop, updated drivers and software are typically available for it there.
