Eskape Labs Announces OSX Support For MyTV
Native OSX Support For MyTV Product Line Due By Q4 2001
NEW YORK, USA, July 19, 2001 - Eskape Labs(TM), a division of Hauppauge Digital Inc., and the leading supplier of USB Television receivers and capture solutions for Macintosh computers, announced today that the future path for company's entire line of products would be under Mac OSX.
Eskape product plans call for native OSX support by the close of Q4 2001 for all current Macintosh TV tuner solutions. In addition all future products will be developed for OSX.
The company sees both performance and development benefits in moving to OSX. Apple aggressively positioning OSX as their future operating system and confidently shipping the new OS on the entire Apple product line, ahead of schedule, was satisfactory in inducing Eskape to adopt a focused, native OSX strategy moving forward.
The true multitasking nature of the new Macintosh operating system will offer significant performance benefits. ``The nature of TV viewing on a computer is, for the most part ancillary, said Christopher Knight, Eskape Labs Executive Vice President. ''TV in a window provides a peripheral companion just as leaving the TV on while attending other duties in the home. In this capacity other applications on the Mac desktop are the primary focus. As a true multi-tasking environment, OSX provides a vastly better architecture for the multiple application nature of our TV products.``
Future applications from Eskape Labs will be fully ``Carbonized'' and architected under the Carbon development environment. EskapeTV v2.0, the next revision of the company's TV viewing and capture application will be the first of the company's OSX developments. Eskape Labs will be providing the first public demonstration of EskapeTV 2.0 under OSX at Macworld NY (Eskape booth, no.1436).
