WinTV PCI boards and Windows XP

All WinTV PCI models, including the WinTV GO, WinTV Theater, and Impact VCB models may be installed on Windows XP systems.

For instructions on reinstalling the WinTV PCI on Windows XP please follow these steps, using the software and drivers provided on that page.

As a general rule during all WinTV installations on Windows XP systems, be sure that you are disconnected from any LAN/WAN, and that the WinTV CD rom disk is not in your CD drive when installing any of the software updates from our website.

The RADIO and IR REMOTE software may also be downloaded and installed for applicable models.

For older model WinTV PCI and VCB boards based on the BT848 Chipset, as well as the WinTV Theater model, download and install the WinTV Driver and WinTV Application

You may also alternatively use these versions for any of the WinTV PCI models if you are not having success using the WDM versions.

If you are having problems:

If you are having trouble with the WinTV installation on Windows XP, download and run the Hcwclear utility and run this to remove the existing WinTV files from the system. Choose "total removal" and put a checkmark in the box for "Search all .INF files for conflicting Bt8xx hardware" and click OK.

Download the driver and application and follow the instructions on the following WEB page. http://www.hauppauge.com.sg/web-content/pages/support_new_pci.html

OR you may alternately use the following versions to address the problem:

Download and install the WinTV Driver and WinTV Application after following the above uninstall procedure.

TROUBLESHOOTING NOTES:

No Audio from the WinTV:

Most audio mixers are muted by default in Windows XP. Click start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume control. Be sure that there is a separate LINE IN balance here, which is not muted, and has the volume level turned up.

If there is no LINE IN balance, you can add one by clicking options/properties, and putting a checkmark next to LINE IN.

In the WinTV program, click the AUD button for the audio configuration, and set the mixer to LINE IN, and be sure that the mixer level is turned up.

The external audio wire must be connected from the WinTV line out to the Line input of the soundcard.

The new "De-Interlacer" software requires a VGA card that correctly supports video overlay mode.

"Failed to create TV Window, another application may be using the driver" error; "Missing HCWCHAN.DLL" error, and missing "HCWBTxxx.sys" error:

This indicates a driver installation problem. Try reinstalling the latest WinTV driver. You may need to follow the "If you are having problems" instructions to first uninstall, and reload using the latest updates.

I am using the new WinTV2000 application with the "de-interlacer" feature, and I am missing the remote applet that was once available to the right of the WinTV Window:

The video capture features are no longer available within this version of WinTV2000, however, you may achieve .AVI captures by using the provided AMCAP application which is installed with the WinTV driver installation.

IR Remote error: "The Procedure Entry Point SUnMapLS could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernal32.dll":

Run the HCWCLEAR utility from your WinTV CD rom, choosing "total removal" and put a checkmark in the box for "Search all .INF files for conflicting Bt8xx hardware" Click OK. Reload the latest WinTV Driver, Application, and IR32 software. If this does not correct the issue, download and install the WinTV VFW drivers.

WinTV-USB/USB2 and Windows XP

The procedure to install the WinTV USB/USB2 on Windows XP is as follows.

NOTE: Installation may be done with your WinTV CD if it is version 3.3 or later

As a general rule during all WinTV installations on Windows XP systems, be sure that you are disconnected from any LAN/WAN, and that the WinTV CD rom disk is not in your CD drive when installing any of the software updates from our website.

Install the latest WinTV USB driver HERE & install the latest WinTV USB2 driver HERE. For the latest WinTV USB Live driver HERE. After loading the drivers, connect the WinTV to the USB port on the PC (not a hub or keyboard).

Next, download and install the latest WinTV application software.

For Radio models, you will also need the Radio software.

"Overlay mixer" errors when attempting to run WinTV:

Windows XP automatically sets the VGA colors to 32 bit color mode. Try changing the VGA colors to 16 bit or 24 bit.

Make sure that the proper, most recent Windows XP VGA drivers are installed for the video card.

Driver installation issues:

Reload using the latest software updates, or CD rom(version 3.3 or later disk).

WinTV-PVR usb/usb2 and Windows XP

The Provided CD rom will allow you to successfully install the WinTV-PVR usb/usb2 on your Windows XP system.

As a general rule during all WinTV installations on Windows XP systems, be sure that you are disconnected from any LAN/WAN during the installation of the device.

Installing the files from the website:

The latest PVR USB/USB2 software can be downloaded from HERE

It may be necessary to download the following 2 files, and copy them into the c:\windows\system32\drivers folder:

HCWNCUSB.INF

HCWNCUSB.SYS

If no PVR drivers have been installed, you may download these files into a temporary folder on your hard drive, and point the driver installation to that folder.

TROUBLESHOOTING NOTES:

Uninstall/Reinstall for the WinTV-PVR usb/usb2:

Make sure that any previous versions of the software have been removed. Use the HCWCLEAR program from the installation CD. Choose the "Total Removal" Option and put a checkmark in the box for "Search all .INF files for conflicting Bt8xx hardware". Then click on OK. Bypass any errors you may get and allow the DOS window to close on its own.

If it is listed and there is a Yellow mark on it, this would indicate that the drivers would need to be reinstalled. Please refer to "Latest drivers and installation procedures" above

If it is not listed, this would normally indicate that the hardware was not recognized by the system and the drivers were unable to install. try disconnecting the Power supply from the PVR-USB2. Wait a few moments and reconnect the power.

- If the Hardware Wizard detects the device, continue the installation of the drivers using the supplied installation CD Rom.

- If the hardware wizard does not detect the device, there may be a problem with the hardware. Try moving it to a different USB2 port on the PC. If you get the same problem, the hardware may be defective and require repair.
